OATS
Oats belong to those cereals that are valued for their high nutritional values. The make up of fat in oats is also very favourable in lowering cholesterol levels in blood. Oats also have a high proportion of so called slow releasing carbohydrates and so foods made from these are a source of energy that is released in a balanced and longer-lasting way. Beta-glucans (soluble fibre) that favourably influence the level of glucose in the blood-stream belong among these carbohydrates. The American Food and Drugs Association have classed oats as a functional food.
BUCKWHEAT
Buckwheat is a naturally gluten-free food, that is easily digestible and has a low Glycemic Index (GI). It is a natural source of rutin which helps blood vessels retain their elasticity. The main source of energy in buckwheat is from carbohydrates in the form of easily digested starch. Buckwheat also contains vegetable sterols which block the intake of cholesterol from food.
SPELT
Spelt is an old type of “uncultivated” wheat and is easily digested. Spelt flakes have a light nut taste and an unusual appearance. From a nutritional view, spelt contains the most important nutrients for the human body. Spelt has less allergens than wheat and so is often used as a replacement for wheat.
WHEAT
Wheat is known as the queen of cereals. It is a good source of energy due to its content of starch which is easily digestible. The fibre in wheat has a very specific influence on the digestive system as this type of wheat cannot be found in any other grain or vegetable. Because of this the fibre in wheat is unique and irreplacable.
