Drinking regime

A healthy drinking regime should be maintained at all times especially on hot Summer days. The body needs an adequate intake of water so that dehydration, headaches or tiredness do not occur.


Water is very important for the human body:

  • It helps wash away toxic materials from the body.
  • It refreshes.
  • It quenches thirst, etc.

Adults are recommended to have a daily intake of 2 - 3 litres. The base for the drinking regime is water and mineral water – it is important though to read the label on the water to be aware of the mineral content. Mineral waters with a medium to high mineralization are not suitable for regular drinking especially for people suffering from hypertension, circulation problems, kidney stones,etc. There are also waters that are rich in elements that are good for the body and that can be used during a limited time to support healing.
Fruit and vegetable juices diluted with water or weak tea are also suitable for repleating fluids. Be careful though with sweetened drinks and take notice of the sugar content..

If the drinking regime is not maintained then our performance becomes worse, often without us noticing this e.g. by losing fluids at a level of  2% of body mass our performance decreases by 20%.
